Structured Training for Hybrid/EV & High Voltage Battery Systems in Canada
More safety, more practice – St. Clair College takes HV technician training to the next level
St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, is one of Canada’s leading institutions for technical vocational training. With a strong focus on hands-on learning and future-oriented technologies, the college aims to prepare skilled professionals for tomorrow’s industries. In response to the growing need for qualified personnel in electric vehicle maintenance and repair—as well as the development of major new manufacturing sites—the college decided to launch a comprehensive training program in e-mobility. A key priority was to develop a program that would cover both foundational knowledge and safety-critical applications.
Lucas-Nuelle and its Canadian partner, ADIA Educational Resources, provided the right solution. The multi-stage training concept combines theory and practice: students begin with the UniTrain system, supported by specially developed e-mobility courses. Training then continues with CarTrain panels for HV drivetrain systems and high-voltage batteries. A strong emphasis is placed on safety—every student must pass system-based assessments before working on real vehicles. The project was rolled out in three phases, aligned with the college’s budget and instructional goals. Since the launch, two full implementations of 65 students have completed the program, and a third will begin in fall 2025. Demand remains high: St. Clair is now seen as a leader in HV training across Ontario and Canada.
“This was a true lighthouse project. The close cooperation with the local team and with Lucas-Nuelle showed how we can work together to create modern, safe, and practical training for e-mobility. Projects like this set the standard.” (Paul Oravetz, ADIA Educational Resources, Lucas-Nuelle distribution partner in Canada)
“St. Clair had everything from the start: a clear vision, committed instructors, and a willingness to innovate in vocational training. It was a privilege for us to support this forward-thinking project.” (Gerald Schex, Sales Director North America at Lucas-Nuelle)
